Smith Forefront 2 Helmet Review

Smith is known for their high performance sunglasses. However,  just about everyone knows a person wearing one of their helmets too. The Smith Forefront 2 helmet and a ton of their performance sunglasses are designed to mesh on and off the face. Smith designed the helmet to allow the temple arms to sit unimpeded on your head. This creates virtually no pressure points. They also created a channel on the outside of the helmet to store the glasses when off your face. This eliminates the need to bring along a sunglass holder. We reveled in the weight, form and function of the Smith Forefront 2 helmet. Above all, it is the first helmet we grab for a mountain bike ride.

Fit: Firstly, this helmet is extremely comfortable due to the depth of the shell itself. It hits just above the eyebrows up front and completely covers the important stuff in the back. The VaporFit technology creates a 360º halo around the head cradling it perfectly. Additionally the system is fully adjustable using a dial which allows it to accommodate many shapes and sizes.

Style: Come on, you know your helmet doesn’t look this slick. Conversely I find many manufacturers trying to create helmets with stylings from 2045, futuristic yet stylish. I don’t need that. The Forefront2 is perfectly proportioned and the Matte Gravy colorway is perfectly subtle.

Venting: Due to the use of Smith’s Aerocore construction, a special blend of EPS and Koroyd, they were able to place more vents on the helmet while keeping it safe and reliable.

MIPS: Looks like a tight bundle of straws, but MIPS provides incredible protection. The idea behind MIPS is that it provides slight movement between the outer shell and the liner during impact which reduces oblique forces on the brain.

Visor: The visor on the Forefront 2 fully articulates to allow for use with goggles and to store Smith sunglasses when not in use.
