With all the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19, the IOC has decided to change the date for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games. The new dates will be July 23 – August 8 2021.

“This decision was taken based on three main considerations and in line with the principles established by the IOC Executive Board (EB) on 17 March 2020 and confirmed at its meeting today. These were supported by all the International Summer Olympic Sports Federations (IFs) and all the National Olympic Committees (NOCs):

1. To protect the health of the athletes and everyone involved, and to support the containment of the COVID-19 virus.

2. To safeguard the interests of the athletes and of Olympic sport.

3. The global international sports calendar.”

What does that mean for athletes? Hopefully we still get to see top level athletes in their prime even stronger with the added time. However, we know the added time will throw off training schedules and generally interrupt most athlete’s programs. With that said, the new 2021 Olympic date will be much anticipated and welcomed after this storm of Corona upheaval passes.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
